What Paypal Does Not Tell You

Before you go jumping into your online business there are a couple a things you need to be aware of if you are going to use Paypal to process your online payment transactions.

The simplest process in terms of installing and getting up and running is using the PayPal Website Payments standard edition.  This service is definitely the lowest cost solution out there for processing credit card and PayPal  transactions.  The only fees charged are the credit card processing fees plus $0.30 per transaction.  Okay, $0.30 may sound like a lot but every solution out there charges a transaction fee and this one is about as low as you can go at the end of the day as there are no monthly fees to use this service.

The downside to this service is not in setting it up and getting it working – the "buy now" buttons are easy to set up and install on your website even for the novice users.  The downside is the fact that the orders that are processed emailed to you for fulfillment.  If you can handle having everything come in via email, than this would be a viable option.  However, you should be aware that email is no longer what it used to be.

The ISPs of the world have taken it upon themselves to block email sent from certain locations or containing some sort of information that they, using various programmed algorithms, have deemed to be spam.  This means that you are not guaranteed that when someone buys something from your site that the order will actually make it to your inbox. As the internet grows in popularity, the incidence is email delivery faulre continues to increase.   However, if you know this up front, then you can also monitor your PayPal account for any lost transactions.

On the other hand, if you want to make the online tranasctions appear seamless, then it would be better to consider using the PayPal Website Payments Pro which allows you process credit card transactions from your site using one of PayPal’s API’s which validates credit card transactions behind the scenes while customer are still on your site.  With Web Site Payments standard, customers are transferred to PayPal and then back to your website following a completed transaction.  There is no tracking of customers electronically during this process so you really do not have any way to determine which customers on your site actually bought something – other than manualyy processing the orders.

Starting an Internet Business with No Capital

With these tough economic times we are seeing today, it is no wonder that everyone is feeling the pinch and worried about the future.  Anyone’s job could be lost at any time.  What better way to prepare yourself for the future than starting an internet business to supplement your income.

Now, the problem now becomes one of what type of business can be started with little or no capital outlay on your part.  Most internet businesses require the building of a web site, the development of a product or product line, the collection of payments for the product and the delivery of the product to the customer.  All of these parts require capital to get set up and started.  However, there is one type of business that can be created with little or no capital.  That business is affiliate marketing.

In affiliate marketing, the only thing that needs to be accomplished is to become an affiliate partner with a vendor who has a product or service that you would like to promote.  The vendor has the web site to sell the product, to take payment from the customer, to deliver the product to the customer, and to track sales to the affiliate marketer to whom the vendor pays commissions.  So, the effort on the part of the affiliate marketer is to drive traffic to the vendor’s site or product page.

Okay, but how can an affiliate marketer promote the product without any capital? Well, this can be accomplished by writing articles about the product that is being promoted and submitting those articles to article directories.  Anyone who has a basic command of the English language and can use a word processor that can help out with grammar and spelling can create articles.  This is where the effort lies on your part — creating articles.  Please remember that success does not come from lack of effort, but the effort does not have to cost anything but time on your part.

The basic process is the create and article that will direct the reader to a free blog or Squidoo lens that you have built that will showcase the product of services that your are promoting.  The blog or lens will have direct links to the affiliate product.  The reason it is done this way is that many of the article directories will not allow a direct link to an affiliate page in their articles.  However, by building a blog or lens that directly relates to the product or service you are promoting, you will have a greater chance of making a sale.   By creating a blog you can also change the format and images that will make your product stand out.

How to Start an e-commerce Business

How to Start an e-commerce Business

Setting up an online e-commerce business is simple. This article describes the processes and functions of an e-commerce Web site. Everything you need to know about How-to plan and start an online business is provided.

Knowing how to start e-commerce businesses is one of the first steps to setting up an online business. First, the initial business plan and idea must be established, and then the e-commerce structure follows. In case you need instruction on the initial business plan of an online business, I will briefly outline it. If you are familiar with business plans, then skip to the third paragraph.

online business,how to

A business plan defines what service or goods your business will provide. It also defines who your customers are, and which market your business should serve. Also, it includes a market analysis, which determines profitability and potential of the market you intend to serve. Next, it defines direction of your business development and growth, as well as operations. In a nutshell, that is a very simplistic business plan.

In order for me to describe the process of starting an e-commerce business, I will describe the outline of how e-commerce works. First, a customer visits a Web site that retails goods. Next, the customer selects goods to make a purchase. The selected goods are added to a shopping cart system. Once the customer is ready to pay for the goods he proceeds to the checkout, where he provides payment and arrangements to receive the goods. Finally, a receipt of purchase is provided via e-mail and usually posted on the screen.

Next, we look at the structure that facilitates this process. First, the e-commerce site is constructed on a Web site that one makes with Web development software. This kind of software is usually Microsoft Front Page or other HTML graphical software, like Flash Dream Weaver, or Joomla. The shopping cart system is usually simple to install software, like php extensions. Once the Web site is setup and the shopping cart system is loaded, the goods may be listed and priced for sale on the shopping cart system.

The next step is the payment processing. A merchant (an e-commerce Web site owner) must establish a bank account and an agreement with a payment processor. A payment processor is an entity that processes credit card numbers and other forms of payment. Processor agreements are termed contracts that usually require a merchant to provide a 1-800 number so that customers may receive help with their purchases should they need. The contracts are usually a minimum of 2 year service agreement. Also, the merchant’s bank account must be linked to the processor, so deposits and withdrawals may be made.

A merchant, like any other business retailer, must provide the processor with a tax identification number or social security (if the merchant is a sole proprietorship). Since we are discussing legal requirements, another need-to-know fact is that sales tax is only applicable if the purchaser’s home state is the same as the shipping point of the goods purchased. For example, if I’m from Texas and I purchase goods to be shipped to my home address in San Antonio, TX, and the merchant lives and ships from New York, NY, I don’t pay sales tax. However, this doesn’t mean that the merchant is tax exempt, federally.

The transportation of goods is an important step. Most e-commerce Web sites are set up for drop shipping. Drop shipping is simply a middle-man approach to retailing on the Web. Drop shipping setup is setup to process orders and payment, but the merchant doesn’t ship the goods. Actually, the order is relayed to a wholesaler, who in turn ships the goods to the original customer. In the end, the e-commerce site only captures a margin of profit from each good sold. Other e-commerce web sites function so that they process the orders and ship the goods all in-house. This is more of an e-bay approach. Beware if high volumes occur, and then you may need to hire help so that you can fill all the orders.

Overall, this is the general instruction of how to start e-commerce businesses. Now that you have seen how it functions inside and out, it’s time for you to begin your business planning.
